The inspiration for this AU actually came from FF13 fandom itself. Before Lightning Returns was released and all fandom had to go on for Snow's characterization/story arc was the opening cutscene of the game -- as well as released information that he was going to be a boss fight -- fandom at large believed that he'd broken beneath the guilt of Serah's death and become an out-and-out villain.
